LOPC is committed to serving others locally, nationally, and around the world with financial support as well as with sweat equity. We realize that unexpected needs arise that require extra support and when this occurs we offer the opportunity to the congregation to help fund these opportunities through a “Relief Offering.” Relief offerings help fund specific needs and unforeseen disasters.

LOPC Responds to maui fires
Hawaii is close to the hearts of this congregation, and we are all mourning the devastating loss for the people of Maui. The wildfires that started during the early morning hours of Aug. 8th ravaged the historic beach town of Lahaina, home to 13,000 residents. Over 11,000 people still remain without power and communication and over 1000 buildings including homes and businesses have been destroyed leaving hundreds of local families displaced.
There are a number of United Church of Christ churches on the Island of Maui who are able to help to provide direct relief to those impacted. The UCC is helping both with immediate needs and committed to helping with long-term needs of those affected. Currently, they are assisting families with immediate needs such as gas, clothes, toiletries, etc. Secondly, they are focusing on long-term recovery for families affected. They are familiar with the communities they support and have the infrastructure needed to assist recovery for the long haul. Grant amounts and availability will vary depending upon need and existing resources.
