Music at LOPC

LOPC is home to a thriving and inclusive music ministry led by acclaimed artists. We take a music-first approach that leads to inspiring rehearsals and fulfilling performances. Musical excellence and a friendly, supportive community are what you’ll find in LOPC ensembles.

There is a musical home at LOPC for all who wish to develop their musical gifts – people of all backgrounds and any/no religious affiliation are welcome and encouraged to join us.

Choral Music List for Fall 2024

The Chancel Choir is the principal choral ensemble at LOPC, leading worship services as well as singing for concerts and special events from September through June. Participation is open to the community – you’ll find people from all backgrounds united by a shared love of singing. The Chancel Choir is comprised of talented volunteers and eight professional choral singers. We sing music in a wide variety of styles and genres, representing the very best choral literature from around the globe.

Rehearsals and performances are scheduled to maximize musical enrichment, consistency, and efficiency. Fast-paced, energizing rehearsals take place for just 1½ hours each Thursday, and the Chancel Choir sings approximately three Sundays of every month. Membership in the Chancel Choir is free, and we ask that you make a steadfast and reliable commitment to attend rehearsals throughout the program year.

The Chancel Choir is a warm, friendly community. In addition to our work making music, we have several opportunities to relax together, whether over a s’more on the patio or an hors d’oeuvre at a concert reception.

If you are interested in joining the Chancel Choir, please email Bryan Dunnewald, Director of Music.

The LOPC Chamber Singers are an all-professional ensemble of the very best choral singers in the Bay Area. They sing on a regular basis in church services and concerts, with repertoire spanning many centuries and continents. The Chamber Singers expand the musical breadth of choral music, bringing to the fore compelling literature by under-represented composers.

LOPC occasionally has openings for professional singers. Please see our Job Opportunities page or email Bryan Dunnewald, Director of Music, for more information on singing professionally at LOPC.

LOPC’s all-professional Praise Band is made up of the finest jazz and contemporary musicians in the area. Bringing together musical influences from gospel and blues to folk and pop is a staple of the Praise Band’s weekly performances. The Praise Band brings top-level artistry to this wide-ranging repertoire to offer an engaging musical experience for the listener, whether in a service or concert.

The Kenneth Z. Mansfield organ at LOPC was built by Swain & Kates, Inc. in 1968. A large instrument that fills the front of the church, the Mansfield organ contains myriad colors in every division. It leads congregational singing, accompanies choral literature, and performs the recital repertoire in voluntaries and concerts.
