Director of Youth & Family Ministry
Job Title: Director of Youth and Family Ministry
Reports to: Pastor for Care & Executive Ministry Leadership
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: Full-time

Salary: $76,000 – $83,000
Job Summary:
The Director of Youth and Family Ministry will provide leadership and vision, and work in partnership with pastors, staff, and church members and volunteers. The Director will facilitate the following in Youth Ministry: connecting with youth, encouraging growth in their spiritual journey, serving and learning through mission opportunities, and participating in meaningful worship. The Director will also develop Family Ministry opportunities in the areas of service, spiritual growth, connecting, and educational events focused on issues that families currently face.
Essential Functions of the job:
Youth Ministry – 75%
- Program Leadership and Development
- Develop and implement a vision for the LOPC Youth Ministry program. Grow the programs in both depth and numbers through program and curriculum development.
- Supervise and participate in planning, preparing, and providing leadership of the LOPC youth programs including: mid-week and Sunday high school and middle school programs, faith milestones and faith pathways, student leadership team, volunteer teams, small groups, music ministries, local mission projects, summer mission trips, and special events and activities.
- Recruit, equip, and encourage volunteers, leaders, and staff while building an effective team led ministry model.
- Build a pastoral care relationships with youth and their families. Spend intentional time getting to know youth and parents.
- Provide Youth Ministry budget oversight (preparation/management)
Church Events

- Participate in LOPC worship and events leadership
- Build meaningful connections between the LOPC youth and the congregation. This includes clear communications to youth, parents, families, staff, and the congregation; youth participation in worship services; and youth leading worship
Communication
- Provide clear communication of youth programs to youth, parents, families, staff, and the congregation, utilizing mailings, email updates, LOPC website, FOCUS (monthly magazine), Connections (weekly newsletter), and other resources.
- Communicate with youth, parents, families, staff, and the congregation at all opportunities to answer any questions or concerns about the youth programs, through meeting opportunities at LOPC, youth events, and activities, phone calls, and emails.
Family Ministry – 20%
- Work with appropriate leadership to develop programs which assist parents in nurturing their children and youth’s spiritual growth, integrating Christian faith and family life, including resources for the home
- Provide intergenerational encounters for the church family that helps to fulfill the congregation’s baptismal vows to children.
- With other ministry areas develop opportunities for fostering community among families in the church.
- Work with pastoral staff to develop leadership and support of a Family Ministries Team.
- Maintain a supportive relationship with families, providing referrals when special pastoral care is needed.
- Participate in the leadership of worship as requested by pastoral staff.
- Keep the Head of Staff briefed on plans, issues, and ministry matters and attend board meetings and retreats as requested.
Personal Growth – 5%
- Utilize youth ministry books and recent publications to continue to develop the LOPC Youth Programs
- Continue to focus on your own formation, both related to spiritual growth and continuing education as a youth ministry leader
- Participate in continuing education events as church budget allows
- Spend time in prayer and in the reading of Scripture
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required in field relevant to working with youth in a church setting. Specialized training in church youth programs.
Experience:
At least three years working as a director or associate director of a successful, growing youth ministry program approximately the same size as the one at LOPC.
Special Skills, Licenses or Certifications:
Skill at working with youth and building Christian relationships with them
Experience supervising staff and volunteers
Experience with planning and budgeting

Associate Director of Youth Ministry

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for shared leadership of the LOPC youth ministry (5th through 12th grades) in partnership with the Director of Youth Ministries, Pastor for Family Ministries, the Family Ministries Team and other LOPC staff, and volunteers. This position will work with the Director of Youth Ministries to develop ministry programs for LOPC youth.
The LOPC youth programs focus on loving, guiding, and empowering youth to grow in faith and serve as followers of Christ. This is achieved through connections with other youth and adult leaders, service through faith-based service-learning, and participation in meaningful worship. This position is a model of the commitment to the core values of LOPC and its mission.
Essential Functions of the job:
- Work with the Director of Youth Ministry in planning and executing youth ministry events, leading volunteers, providing pastoral care to youth and families, teaching, and performing administrative duties. Will have flexibility and ownership in planning various activities.
- Provide supportive leadership for middle school YOW youth group (Wednesday evenings) and high school BTW youth group (Sunday evenings), special events and family worship services.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee the Sunday school Youth Alive program (5th – 8th grade).
- Lead the Service Squad summer service camp program (5th & 6th grade) and various service-learning days during the school year.
- Take an active leadership role in both the middle school and high school summer service-learning trips.
- Perform youth ministry related administrative duties including but not restricted to; maintaining database attendance and profile information, generating reports, creating online registration forms, assisting with official communications, managing website content, assisting in scheduling events, maintaining social media accounts and preparing work orders.
Expectations:
- Attend and exhibit leadership within all youth ministry related programming.
- Keep office hours during the week, attend staff and pertinent committee meetings.
- Maintain a personal devotional practice.
- Develop faith-sharing and faith-building relationships with youth and their families.
- Assist as a liturgist in various Sunday morning worship services.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: Previous experience of at least two years in youth or children’s ministry required
Skills: Skilled at working and communicating with youth and families to build pastoral relationships with them. Willingness to learn website content and social media management, and various database platforms.
