What is Christian Nationalism? with Dr. Heath Carter

August 17 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

In the Oak Room.

Christian Nationalism is based on the belief that the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation which has been uniquely blessed by God.  Its adherents advocate for political actions to ensure it remains that way.  Dr. Carter will address the origins and development of Christian nationalism from a historical perspective. He will also help us consider how we can most faithfully and effectively engage in public life during this time of surging Christian Nationalism.

Dr. Heath W. Carter teaches and writes about the intersection of Christianity and American public life and most recently has focused on the future of American democracy. He is currently working on a book entitled On Earth as it is in Heaven: Social Christians and the Fight to End American Inequality, retelling the story of the American social gospel, which transformed not only churches but the nation as a whole and powered faith-filled movements for a more egalitarian United States of America.
