Spiritual Formation
The purpose of LOPC’s Spiritual Formation ministry is to provide opportunities for people to deepen their relationship with God and to understand where God is in their daily lives. What Is Spiritual Formation?
This is the question most frequently asked about our ministry. For starters, the heart of Spiritual Formation is about deepening your connection to God, who reaches out to us in love and grace; and the reality for many of us is that we may already be doing Spiritual Formation in some form yet in our own way.
People describe Spiritual Formation differently because we experience our connection to God in different ways, either through individual practices or in community with others. So our ministry leadership team has developed a useful definition that is broad enough to encompass all forms of Spiritual Formation as we discover our own pathways to God:
Spiritual formation is the intentional process of becoming aware of where God is in your daily life and being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ for the sake of others. The focus of spiritual formation is the Holy Spirit, who guides your ongoing inward journey towards a connection with God and enables your response to God’s calling you into action on your outward journey.
No matter what practice of Spiritual Formation you make a part of your life, when you take time on your “inward journey” to become aware of where God might be at work in you right then and there, you connect with God. This connection with God is how we experience life in all of its abundance, how we are continually transformed, and how we are informed where God is calling us into action on our “outward journey.” Check out the resources below on finding a Spiritual Formation practice that feels right for you and also on how to lead Spiritual Formation at meetings.
