SUMMARY:Faith250: A Community Celebration of our Country's 250th Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays\, June 3 and June 10 at Temple Isaiah\, 7:00-8:30 p.m. Check-in at 6:30 p.m.\nWednesdays\, June 17 and 24 at LOPC\, 7:00-8:30 p.m. Check-in at 6:30 p.m.\nFriday\, July 3: Community Potluck and Interfaith Service at Temple Isaiah\, 6:00-8:30 p.m.\nLafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church and Temple Isaiah are partnering to host a multi-week commemoration of the 250th year of America for congregations in our community. We all know these are divisive and bitter times. This program\, faith250\, invites us to build a more robust\, healthy\, and interconnected interfaith and civic community. Clusters of congregations across the country will be participating. \nOn each Wednesday evening in June\, we will explore one of four foundational texts from American history: \n\nThe Declaration of Independence\nFrederick Douglass’ “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”\nThe New Colossus by Emma Lazarus\nAmerica the Beautiful by Katharine Lee Bates\n\nAn expert will help frame each text for us. Then we will gather in intentionally-created small groups.  During these conversations\, we will explore the texts from our diverse perspectives\, articulate the values we share\, deepen our relationships\, and reflect on our role as people of faith in this challenging moment. \nPlan to join your neighbors in this once-in-a generation opportunity! By working together (up to 20 of us)\, we’ll sort\, box\, and bag food to provide for those in our community facing hunger. This is an opportunity to serve those in need while building connections at LOPC. \nHere’s how you can help: \n\nWhen: Saturday afternoons\n\nSaturday May 16\, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm\nSaturday June 27\, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm\nSaturday July 11\, 1:30 – 3:30 pm\nSaturday August 15\, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm\n\n\nWhat we do: Warehouse Volunteers – Sort and box food donations\, bag fresh produce\, and ensure everything is ready for distribution.\nWhat to wear: Wear comfortable clothes\, long pants are recommended but not required (jeans are great!). The warehouse does not have heat or a/c\, layers are encouraged.\nAge requirements: Age Minimum (with Adult): 11+\, Minimum Age:16+\nWhere: Concord Warehouse\, 4010 Nelson Avenue. Parking is limited\, so carpooling is a great idea!\n\nWhy it matters: The Food Bank serves over 390\,000 people each month\, and our volunteer support is critical to this mission. Your time and effort directly help those in Contra Costa and Solano counties who are struggling to put food on the table. \nReady to make a difference?
